About Steward

What is Steward?

Steward is salon management for hair salons. It works alongside you every day: your book, checkout, clients, inventory and payroll numbers all live in one place, and each morning Steward tells you only what needs you, with the next step ready for you to approve. A real person from our team sets it up with you and stays with you after.

Who is Steward for?

Growing hair salons. Steward is for owners who want their salon to run better than it does today and who want to help move this industry forward. That includes single and multi-location salons.

How is Steward different from what I use now?

Steward doesn’t stop at keeping your records. It works on them with you. It notices the regular who’s overdue, the numbers that slipped this week and the open time coming up, then brings you the next step. You approve, and it’s handled. And you have a real person from our team beside you the whole way.

Is Steward booking software?

Booking is included: online booking, your calendar, reminders and checkout. But booking is where Steward starts, not what it is. Steward is there to help you run the whole salon.

What does Steward do day to day?

  • It notices regulars who are overdue and drafts a note in your voice for you to approve.
  • It spots open time coming up and the clients who are due to fill it.
  • It works out every paycheck to your pay plan, with commissions and tips included.
  • It gives each stylist their own numbers and a brief before each client.
  • Each morning, it tells you only what needs you.

Does Steward work for more than one location?

Yes. Steward works for single and multi-location salons.

Where is Steward available?

In the US. We’re based in Chicago and New York, and our partner salons are live in the Chicago area.

Who is behind Steward?

Steward was founded by Davi Gutkin, Daniel Kıllıoğlu and Rani Joudeh. Before we sold anything, we spent three months working inside a salon. Steward is backed by Gutter Capital.

For stylists

What do stylists see in Steward?

Their own day and week, a short brief before each client with their last visit, last formula, talking points and past photos, and their pay, commission and tips for the day and the week.

How do stylists see their commission and next level?

Each stylist sees the level they are on, how much more gets them to the next one, and anything else their pay plan asks for, like retail, marked done or not yet. It updates as they work.

Is there a Steward app?

Yes. Stylists can use the Steward app on iPhone, with new bookings and changes sent straight to their phone.

Can stylists book their own clients?

Yes. Stylists can book their own clients on their own calendar.

Does Steward keep track of tip-outs?

Yes. Stylists record their tip-outs in Steward, and Steward keeps them straight for everyone.

How are stylists trained on Steward?

In person. We train stylists in the salon so everyone gets the most out of Steward, and stylists can reach out to us directly with any question.

Money and pay

Does Steward run payroll?

Steward works out every paycheck: service and retail commission, tips and hours, matched to your pay plan down to each appointment. You or your payroll provider still send the payments.

Can I take deposits or keep a card on file?

Yes, if your salon uses them. You can take a deposit when a client books, and send a client a link to save a card on file.

Does Steward handle gift cards?

Yes. You can sell gift cards and take them at checkout.

How much does Steward cost?

Our pricing is custom, built around how your salon is set up and what you want it to become, because every salon is different. There is no setup cost, and Steward is month to month with a satisfaction guarantee.
